Reminder that speech delays with Autism often have very little to do with ability or intelligence and nearly everything to do with motivation.
A “nonverbal” kid can quickly become very verbal when it’s a preferred topic/activity or they feel comfortable with the other person - or, in some cases, if they realize that verbal communication gets them what they want/need faster.
